The natural Park in the Southwest region of the Alentejo and Vicentina Coast is one of the most recent Portuguese Natural Parks. Founded at the end of 1995, it holds the longest Portuguese shoreline, under protective legislation that aims to preserve for the coming generations the unique characteristics of the whole coastline. This Natural Park protects also a large area of Atlantic Ocean. With its limit 2 km parallel to the coast and it holds a relatively intact coastline.
